Steel Depot supports commercial, residential, agricultural, and oil field customers across the region. It currently has facilities in Artesia, Carlsbad, and Roswell, with an office in Lubbock, Texas. The Roswell location is home to an 8,750-square-foot main warehouse and another 5,000-square-foot panel warehouse, with plans to expand in the coming years.
“Steel is prevalent in our area,” says Eric Norris, General Manager of Steel Depot. “We can provide raw materials to construction teams, engineers, and homeowners, or we can assist in the design and manufacturing of pre-engineered metal buildings delivered to the customer's jobsite.”
Steel Depot was started in the 1990s and has grown across Eastern New Mexico as its reputation has grown. Today, Steel Depot is known for its quality products, dedicated teams, and on-time delivery. Not only does it create steel structures that last, but the employees also ensure the Steel Depot customers enjoy working with them and will call again for their future needs.
Customers Don’t Have to Choose Between Steel and Style
Steel is a popular construction material in New Mexico because of the desert climate. There aren’t a lot of hardwood trees that can be harvested for timber. Steel also has the durability to withstand wind and wear, which is ideal in desert lands. This keeps the team at Steel Depot busy, especially after major storms.
“The materials we offer are Class 4 Impact-Resistant panels, a premium metal roofing that not only resists hail damage but also may lower your insurance premiums.” He adds that nothing is immune to large hail, but many roofs in the area have withstood multiple storms with minimal damage sustained.
The good news for Roswell families and business owners with particular design aesthetics is that customers aren’t limited to one or two roof colors. Steel Depot offers 16 steel colors, allowing customers to choose the option that best suits their architectural preferences. There are also different styles and varieties of roofing.
“We offer a lot of alternatives, so your house doesn’t have to look like a barn,” says Norris.
Employees Are Trained With Service in Mind
One of the benefits of having such a large steel supplier in Chaves County is the speed of delivery. When construction firms order steel trim, they can receive their orders within 48 hours. Before Steel Depot arrived and ramped up its operations, trim orders took one to two weeks.
“A fast turnaround is important for local contractors who are trying to wrap up a project,” says Norris. “They might need one last piece to complete a house or want trim quickly to hit their deadlines. We do our best to make that happen.”
The Roswell facility has three employees dedicated to manufacturing metal trim. There are 17 people employed locally by Steel Depot, and around 40 people total at the company.
Of course, speed isn’t everything when it comes to steel. Team members need high-level critical thinking and problem-solving skills to map out projects and determine what needs to be done. Norris says Steel Depot has qualified staff that can assist and help customers see their projects go from dreams to realities. Their motto is “We’ll help you build it better,” and the company strives to live up to it on every project.
Steel Depot Joined the EDC to Grow With the Community
When Steel Depot opened its Roswell location in 2012, it was a small facility with a single forklift. It has since grown into a full-service steel supplier and an essential partner for the local construction scene. Steel Depot is a member of the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and has been involved for the past two or three years.
“We just kept seeing the EDC out there,” says Norris. “Mike Espiritu and his team are involved in the community, out at events, and helping local businesses.”
Steel Depot has growth plans for the near future as demand for its products increases in Roswell. The EDC can offer support and work alongside Norris and his team to reach their goals.
“Eric Norris and the Steel Depot team exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit that helps drive Roswell forward,” says Espiritu, President and CEO of the EDC. “Their commitment to quality, customer service, and continued investment in our community makes them a valued partner in our region's economic growth.”

The Roswell Chaves County EDC works closely with companies in the area to support their expansion goals. Espiritu and his team assist with site selection and permitting, helping business owners launch their concepts or find larger properties in their ideal locations. The EDC can also review tax incentives and credits to help businesses save.
If you’re ready to grow in Roswell or want a partner to help your business efforts, contact the EDC. If the team can’t help you, they will find the right organization or resource that can.
