'Year of the Rocket' at Roswell Museum

When Robert Goddard chose Roswell as the ideal location for experimenting with rockets in early 1930, few people likely would have thought the influence of the physicist and rocket pioneer would leave a mark on the community nearly a century later.

But instead of his groundbreaking work in Chaves County fading into space, one of the Roswell's two high schools is named for the "Father of Rocketry," and the Roswell Museum is declaring 2026 “The Year of the Rocket,” to celebrate Goddard's achievements, according to Museum Educator Jessica Parham.
