Braxton Fulkerson is the third-generation owner of a company that has supported Chaves County since 1964. “My grandfather, Rayford, knew everybody in Roswell, and everyone knew he could fix their plumbing challenges,” says Braxton. “Then my father, Danny, established the air conditioning side in the 1980s and was instrumental in growing the business.”

Braxton purchased the company in 2019 and continues the family tradition of taking care of people. His dad still visits the office to offer advice and lend a hand, which he is thankful for.

The busiest months for an HVAC company in New Mexico are summer and winter. However, the team at Fulkerson Plumbing & Air Conditioning keeps working throughout the year by scheduling off-season tune-ups to prepare homeowners for the more extreme months. Braxton and his team frequently advise new homeowners (and new Chaves County residents) on maintaining their systems in the dry desert air.

“Roswell has a unique climate,” says Fulkerson. “Homeowners still need to maintain comfortable humidity levels in their homes, which is part of their air conditioning system. Chaves County also has a lot of hard water, so we frequently install water softeners to make washing dishes easier and showering more comfortable.”

Fulkerson Plumbing & Air Conditioning also offers 24/7 response because HVAC units and water heaters don’t follow a Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule.

“My dad implemented the 24/7 on-call policy,” says Braxton. “He led the way in doing all the after hours calls himself and sacrificed his time to help our customers. Today, we’re blessed to have a team of technicians and plumbers with a rotating schedule so everyone gets time off.”

“We’ve been members for many years,” says Fulkerson. “I support everything the organization does and its commitment to helping the community grow. I see so many activities, leadership luncheons, and events they host to build up businesses in the community.”

Fulkerson says he is inspired by the people of Roswell and how they work together. He remembers the regional flooding in October 2024 and how everyone in the community helped each other. That’s what makes a city feel like home and what is needed for Roswell to grow.
