Roswell is fortunate to be the home of a world-class, community-supported, professional symphony orchestra. For 60 years, the Roswell Symphony Orchestra (RSO) has been a sustaining cultural element of our community with performances featuring renowned guest musicians. Annually, the RSO conducts a Children’s Concert series for elementary school students around Chaves County. This year the RSO is placing a special focus on getting professional musicians into classrooms, which will assist in continually improving the quality of music education in our community.
As the Chair of the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, I would like to detail why the RSO is important to our economy:
- Businesses considering locating in Roswell are positively impressed by a community that supports a professional symphony orchestra.
New residents – from young professionals to retirees appreciate the “Quality of Life” that an orchestra provides.
- The Roswell Symphony Orchestra draws visitors from over 200 miles away. It provides visitors an opportunity to spend more time in the community. These visitors provide a direct injection of capital into the local economy.
- Depending on what the RSO is performing, they employ 48-65 musicians, 90% of whom come from outside of Roswell. The RSO purchases 22-40 rooms from local hotels for every concert for the out-of-town musicians. In addition, because most of the out-of-town musicians have been a part of the RSO for years, they spend a great deal of their stipend here at various restaurants and hotels enjoying all that Roswell has to offer.
Supporting the RSO (www.roswellsymphony.org) makes good economic sense. Having the symphony here is a clear economic advantage and a competitive asset for Roswell in which we can all take pride.
Please contact me directly if I can be of any assistance.
Thank you for your support for the Roswell Symphony Orchestra.
