John Mulcahy, left, the former president of the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corp. who resigned in May after five years with the EDC, is recognized by Bud Kunkel, chair of the board of directors, Wednesday during the group’s annual meeting at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. “If I were to use a couple of words to describe John, it would be uncompromising and tenacious. He does not give up on any idea that could enhance the economic viability of our area,” Kunkel said. “I am pleased to call John a personal friend and likely the best economic developer in the state.” Mulcahy, who received a plaque and was recognized by a standing ovation, was credited for working on 40 business recruitments and relocations a year. Major projects he was involved with in recent years include the regional air authority legislation, USA Beef Packing, the Spring River Apartments, the Roswell Film Studios, Zia Motor Sports, Red Mountain Arsenal, the NextEra Energy solar project and American Airlines service to Phoenix.
